ECO401 Economics Assignment No.1 Solution On April 2013

The case:
The local sports goods manufacturing industry is one of the major source of foreign
exchange earnings of Pakistan. At present, there are more than 2000 units, mostly on
small scale in operation, with an installed capacity of Rs.20 billion per annum. The units
are operating on single-shift basis. Sports goods worth US$261.148 million were
exported in the year 2012. The industry enjoys a low markup rate of about 7% on loans
and has an easy access to the European and US markets. Let the demand and supply
functions of sports goods industry of Pakistan are:
Qd = 17000 –6P
Qs = 900 + 8P
However, due to increased competition by countries such as China, India and South
Korea the industry can no longer enjoy the profit; it did in the region earlier. These
countries might not have the seasoned labor of Sialkot but they can compete Pakistan
and meet any supply order on the basis of their research and development resources
and uninterrupted power supplies. But in Pakistan due to shortage of electricity, research
and development price of sports goods remained at very high level.
a. Find the equilibrium price and equilibrium quantity for the sports goods industry in
Pakistan. Also show the equilibrium condition graphically.
b. Find out the price elasticity of demand and price elasticity of supply of Sports
goods when the industry is in equilibrium and interpret the results.
c. What will be the effect on the equilibrium situation of sports goods industry if cost
of production of sports goods increases due to high per unit cost of electricity.
Illustrate graphically.
d. Suppose the Government takes initiatives to improve technology and provide
better infrastructure, what will be the impact of these initiatives on equilibrium
situation? Illustrate graphically.
(Marks: a: 2+2+3, b: 4+4, c: 2.5, d: 2.5)

Idea Solution:

1).

Qd = Qs

17000 - 6P = 900+8P

8 P + 6 P = 17000 - 900

14 P = 16,100

P = 16,100/14 = 1150

Put Price into any 1 equation then we get quantity:

Qd = 17,000 - 6 P

= 17, 000 - 6 (1150)

= 17,000 - 6900

= 10, 100

Qs = 900 + 8 P

= 900 + 8 (1150)

= 900 + 9200

= 10 , 100

MGT602 Entrepreneurship Assignment 1 Solution On April 2013

MGT602 Entrepreneurship Assignment 1 Solution On April 2013

Back ground:
Entrepreneurship is treated as one of the most appropriate tool to fix many socio-economic
problems faced by developing countries. This shift has been observed in all developed and
developing countries. In this decade the research conducted by many state and non-state
organizations and educational institutions have revealed the potential of entrepreneurship in
economic growth and development. The entrepreneurial process ensures the self-employment
that is the most appropriate tool to eradicate poverty and unemployment. It also ensures
improved productivity through innovation. Pakistan is going through turmoil of economic
downfall where most of the firms are falling in trenching situation. The production capacities of
firms are either squeezed or shifted to other countries that cause terrible increase in
unemployment.
CASE:
In Pakistan one of the serious socio -economic issue is unemployment. To overcome this issue
there is generally two ways. One is to create jobs and other is to establish their own enterprises.
But People are extremely risk averse and that is the main reason they do not try something new.
It is commonly observed that Pakistani graduates after completing their degrees opt to work for
someone else instead of starting up their own businesses. In Asian developing countries,
entrepreneurship development is currently an important issue related to economic development.
It is believed that in most of the countries lack of entrepreneurship is the main cause of weak
economic backwardness, limited capital, skilled workers and technology.
Requirements:
Q.1 In your opinion what are those barriers that could hinder the entrepreneurial intensions of business graduates in Pakistan. You need to provide at least 10 reasons? (10 marks)

Barriers to Entrepreneurship
Two trends of thought dominate research related to barriers to entrepreneurship, one highlighting
psychological variables deterring entrepreneurial endeavors, and the other accentuating variables related
to the business environment. Taormina and Lao (2007) show that budding entrepreneurs face
psychological issues such as achievement striving and optimism. Sandhu et al., (2011) suggest that
internal psychological variables that affect entrepreneurship include aversion to risk, fear of failure,
aversion to stress and hard work, while external factors include lack of social networking and lack of
resources, and have an equally significant impact on entrepreneurial inclination.
Indeed, macro-level environmental forces should not be underestimated. Factors in the external
environment, can potentially influence the start-up decision (Aldrich, 2000). Just as favorable external
factors can be considered conducive to entrepreneurship, unfavorable external factors can be powerful
barriers to it. For example, inadequate financial support, bureaucracy and inconsistency of government
policies, lack of entrepreneurial education at tertiary level and inadequacy of entrepreneurial training are
some of the important obstacles (Ahmad and Xavier, 2012). Similarly, Chowdhury (2007) explains that
political instability, corruption, lack of infrastructure facilities, education and training, lack of financial
help, all pose as barriers to entrepreneurship in developing nations. This supports the trend of thought that
highlights the business environment as a primary factor affecting entrepreneurship. It also suggests that
entrepreneurship is not only a function of internal psychological factors, but is also subject to external
environmental variables as well.
The Variables under Study
In this study, barriers belonging to both schools of thought will be examined for the purpose of
determining their effect on entrepreneurial inclination. The independent variables will be partly
psychological: aversion to risk, fear of failure, aversion to stress and hard work, partly environmental,
including lack of resources and lack of social networking, as depicted in Sandhu et al., (2011); in addition
to other environmental variables such as lack of economic stability and lack of political stability, as
suggested by Taormina and Lao (2007). The dependent variable in the study will be entrepreneurial
inclination in a developing nation.
Entrepreneurial Inclination
The entrepreneurial inclination in a country refers to the tendency of a population to engage in
entrepreneurial activity, at any stage of entrepreneurship, whether nascent, startup, or established. There
have been numerous studies about entrepreneurial inclinations around the world. There are even periodic
surveys that measure this variable across countries. Recent studies show that developing nations enjoy
higher rates of entrepreneurial intentions than developed nations (GEM, 2011). However, both developing
and developed nations are adjusting their academic curricula in a way that raises the entrepreneurial
inclination of students so as to turn a higher percentage of them into entrepreneurs. (Roffe, 2010; Frank et
al., 2005). Indeed, there have been numerous studies investigating the qualities of potential entrepreneurs.
Those who are entrepreneurially inclined seem to have greater innovativeness, more tolerance of
ambiguity and higher propensity to take risk as compared with those who are not entrepreneurially
inclined (Hian Chye Koh, 1996). Senior students that are entrepreneurially inclined are found to have
higher risk taking propensity, internal locus of control, higher need for achievement and higher
innovativeness (Gürol and Atsan, 2006). In this study, entrepreneurial inclination will be the dependent
variable under study, likely to be influenced by psychological factors, business environment factors, as
well as other external stability factors.
Aversion to Risk
Deriving wisdom from theory, this study goes back to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs (Maslow, 1954)
which identifies safety as the second basic need of the individual. Individuals need to feel secure in
making choices, such that risk of loss remains at a minimum. Herzberg et al.,(1959) pointed to the need
for security as a hygiene-type need, which if unsatisfied, will cause the individual to lose motivation for
behavior. This goes to show that people are generally risk averse, and will part away from risky
endeavors.

However, this contradicts with the intrinsic quality of the entrepreneur: being a risk taker. McClelland
(1985) shows that people who are moderate risk takers turn out to be more successful entrepreneurs. Such
contradictory evidence makes risk aversion a controversial variable that may either hinder or contribute to
entrepreneurship. On one hand, in a risk-averse society, not only is the entrepreneur risk averse but so is
the lender or investor, which makes the business startup more costly, with a lower potential for success.
This may pose a serious barrier to the entrepreneur. On the other hand, risk aversion may contribute to
entrepreneurial success. Some risk-averse people, long deemed inherently ill-suited to entrepreneurship,
might actually be well-suited to this occupation after all (Hsieh et al., 2011). In fact, it has been found that
risk taking is what differentiates entrepreneurs from managers (Mill, 1984). Nevertheless, evidence points
to risk aversion as one of the barriers to entrepreneurship. Hence, the first hypothesis in this study is:

H1
: Risk aversion has a significant negative impact on entrepreneurial inclination.

Aversion to Stress and Hard work
It can be expected that the process of initiating a business involves stressful work activities, follow up
work, meeting timelines, and dealing with exhausting demands of the startup and its ups and downs.
Hofstede (1980) classified countries according to 5 cultural dimensions, one of which is “uncertainty
avoidance”. This points to the fact that people differ in how they perceive uncertainty based on cultural
values. Since uncertainty is inherently associated with entrepreneurial endeavors, it is a condition that the
entrepreneur has to deal with. Hence, entrepreneurs generally suffer from anxiety and stress, undesirable
elements of entrepreneurship. All this may inflict aggravation on the entrepreneur and may disrupt
his/her life, routine, and work/life balance. Therefore, aversion to stress and hard work is considered a
psychological factor that posits as a barrier to entrepreneurial activity. Hence the second hypothesis in this
study is:
H2
: Aversion to stress and hard work has a significant negative impact on entrepreneurial inclination.
Fear of Failure
If the entrepreneur fails, this has many psychological implications. Failure of one’s business can have
negative ramifications on one’s image as a success story. It affects one’ self-esteem, confidence, and trust
in one’s abilities. As a result, it also affects one’s future entrepreneurial potential, thus influencing not
only one’s present but also one’s future. It is not surprising that fear of failure is yet another significant
barrier to entrepreneurship. About 21% of the Lebanese population (between 18 and 65 years of age)
declare that fear of failure prevents them from pursuing entrepreneurial ventures (Global
Entrepreneurship Monitor, 2009). It is deemed important by the researchers to further investigate the
effect of fear of failure on entrepreneurial inclination in Lebanon. Hence, the third hypothesis in this study
is Fear of Failure has a significant negative effect on entrepreneurial inclination.
Lack of Social Networking
Social networking is considered to be a common daily activity that relates to all aspects of life, especially
in developing nations. For example, in China, networking is used at all levels of social life (Luo, 2000). It
is especially important in Chinese business because an entrepreneur’s connections are often a critical
success factor (Yeung and Tung, 1996). Along the same lines, Sandhu et al., (2011) argue that in a
developing country such as Malaysia, social networking is an important factor in influencing
entrepreneurial activities. As such, lack of social networking can hinder entrepreneurial intentions, they
point out. It is argued that (social networking) structure serves as a basis for entrepreneurial activities and
innovations in the USA. Moral values support, and corporative networks from the society provide easy
solutions to the problems entrepreneurs face especially during the setting up stage of their firms. This
makes great contributions for the development of entrepreneurial activities in a society (TÜSİAD, 2002).
In a developing nation, networking has been shown to be one of the major success factors of a business.
The absence of social networking may hinder the entrepreneur’s efforts to start a business. Hence, the
fourth hypothesis in this study is:

H4
: Lack of social networking has a significant negative impact on entrepreneurial inclination.

Lack of Resources
Entrepreneurs have a universal need: the need for resources, especially adequate funding. In developing
nations, it is clearly difficult for entrepreneurs to raise funds for starting their business. Apart from banks,
there are very few funding agencies, and venture capitalists and business angels are, with a few
7

exceptions, almost unheard of. This renders lack of funds a hurdle faced by small and medium-sized
companies in a developing nation like Malaysia (Edward and Chooi, 2007). Limited personal and family
savings and an absence of financial innovation severely limit the growth prospects of promising startups
in developing countries (Lingelbach, 2005). In Lebanon, sources of funds for entrepreneurs are little and
are limited to commercial banks. To help entrepreneurs obtain funds from local banks, there are
organizations like Kafalat which is a Lebanese financial company with a public concern that assists small
and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to access commercial bank funding. Kafalat helps SMEs by
providing loan guarantees based on business plans / feasibility studies that show the viability of the
proposed business activity (Kafalat 2012). However, informal investments in an entrepreneur’s startup
have not exceeded 2% of the population (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, 2009). This accentuates the
fact that funds are quite difficult to raise for entrepreneurial ventures, and that lack of resources may pose
as a barrier to entrepreneurship. Therefore, the fifth hypothesis in this study is:
H5
: Lack of resources has a significant negative impact on entrepreneurial inclination.
Lack of Economic Stability
Through the course of their development, economic instability remains a common characteristic of
developing countries, despite the general upward trend of their growth rates. A developing economy is
subject to variations in aggregate demand, investment, exports, and exchange rates, making it difficult for
a startup to pull off and survive. The unfavorable state of the economy may negatively affect
entrepreneurship (Baena, 2012). The negative effects are accentuated if the lending institutions become
more conservative, thereby reluctant to extend credit to entrepreneurs. Thus, the sixth hypothesis is:
H6
: Lack of economic stability has a significant negative impact on entrepreneurial inclination.
Lack of Political Stability
Political stability is essential for stimulating entrepreneurship in developing nations (Baena, 2012). In a
study using structural equation modeling to depict precursors to entrepreneurial intentions, Ali et al.,
(2010) found that political instability had negative effects on entrepreneurial intentions. On the other
hand, no significant relationship was established between entrepreneurship performance of national
economies and political stability of countries (AĞCA, 2008). Hence, there is no conclusive evidence
linking entrepreneurship to political stability, making this relationship worthy of further investigation.

Demographics
It is expected that demographic factors like age, gender, education, employment status, and income may
have some effect on entrepreneurial inclination. Many studies were conducted to examine the effect of
demographic factors, and the results were not conclusive. In one study, age, gender, and education were
found to have no significant effect on the entrepreneurial intentions of people
Q.2 In your opinion, the factors that you have mention in question no.01, how we can break those barriers to stimulate the entrepreneurial intensions among business graduates in Pakistan.

can be narrow or broad. Narrow mission statement shows that which products and services
are offered, which technology is used etc. Broad mission statement wider mission values in
terms of product and services, technologies etc. Vision statement relates to future of an
organization, it includes strategic planning for future and organization s’ inspiration. Vision
describes these questions, “where we want to be in future?” and “where we want to go?”
Scenario
Ms Nazia opened a boutique named as “En”, in 1999 in Lahore. This boutique became
highly popular in 2000. Nowadays “En” boutique has a number of outlets in the major cities

Due to the difference in school of thoughts, they have bad ties; do not communicate and when they do, it gets hostile.

They have been assigned a deadline and the work is too huge to be done alone.

In determining the conflicting ties through Themes of Conflict Diagnosis, how you diagnose the above conflict between the two working together while disagreeing also? Explain any 3 related themes in reference with above context

“Although caring may not be a word many people would normally associate with management. Cheryl Womack of Kansas City, Missouri, has built a $45 million company (VCW Inc.) by caring about her customers and her employees. She started her business in 1981 in the basement of her home with one telephone and call-waiting. What does VCW Inc. do? The company oversees the National Association of Independent Truckers. VCW offers
cost-effective insurance coverage, retirement benefit plans, low-interest credit cards, and other benefits to thousands of independent truck drivers who belong to this association. In addition, many large motor carriers who hire independent drivers are also her customers.Womack's customers are a unique breed, indeed! Independent truck drivers "move the world" as they travel across the country with the products we use every day. Independent truck drivers are also business people and must run their businesses efficiently and effectively or they won't survive in this intensely competitive industry. How does VCW show that it cares about its
customers-these independent truckers? It provides an answer to a problem that many of them face: where to find cost-effective insurance coverage that other insurance companies refuse to carry. Womack subscribes to the belief that if you can help solve a customer's problem, you'll be successful. She and her employees have been successful at solving their customers' problems and
caring about them by providing outstanding customer service. But
Womack's caring management doesn't stop with her customers. It extends to her employees, as well. Her most compelling statement about her management philosophy is that
"everything I do here is designed to cultivate and grow employees." From the beautifully designed offices to the formal dinners and travel experiences she provides, Womack sees her role as a mentor for employees, not as a boss. She wants her employees to not only do their jobs but also to recreate,
redesign, and expand them. Employees can earn $1,000 for proposing suggestions that help them do the job better. VCW Inc. also has a profit-sharing plan that gives employees a stake in the company's ability to make a profit. Womack also recognizes that employees need more than financial caring. To that end, she implemented on-site day care for employees' children, and employees enjoy inexpensive, delicious home-cooked meals at
the office prepared by an employee who started at VCW in customer service but who had always dreamed of a job cooking for others. Womack strongly believes in the power of such benefits to show employees that she cares about them and wants them to be committed and productive at their jobs”.
Q1) Which of the four management functions does Cheryl Womack
seem to be particularly strong?
Q2) Which of the management skills Cheryl Womack optimally
possessed? Provide examples supporting your choices.

MGT610 Business Ethics Assignment 1 Solution On April 2013

MGT610 Business Ethics Assignment 1 Solution On April 2013

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has been a deregulated sector in Pakistan for almost a decade.
The primary objective of this price deregulation by the government was to bring more
investment in the oil and gas sector of Pakistan. Local production in the country is less than the
demand of this product. According to a rough past estimate, local production of LPG in the
country is 1600 metric ton and its demand is around 3000 metric ton per day. Different LPG
companies that were licensed by Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had to manage the
product demand of the market mostly through de‐marketing activity and import of LPG (in few

cases through illegal channels from Iran). This massive gap in the supply and demand of the
product also created black marketing and import of product without paying taxes on the import
and without the prior permission of OGRA. Price trend in the market over the years is that this
product’s price increases in winter due to extra demand and decreases in summer due to
decrease in the demand. LPG initially was thought to be a pro‐poor fuel but it was not the actual
case in the market because its prices remained out of the reach for a poor person during winter
seasons.
Real time scenario
In a routine price cartel situation just before the winter season, managers of the different LPG
licensed companies were sitting together in a meeting for deciding a mutually agreed price with
extra and unchecked profit during the upcoming winter season. Most of the managers were
keen to have a constant increase in the price during winter with their mutual consensus but one
of the managers, Mr. Ali suggested that this constant increase in the fuel price will increase the
suffering of common and poor people. All the other stake holders heavily criticized Mr. Ali as he
was suggesting a cut on the profit for the interest of society. Some of the senior managers in
that meeting told Mr. Ali that he had no right to think for these ethical considerations in
business as he is representing his company as an employee and that there is no such law to
regulate the price of the product. Mr. Ali’s point of view was that he was also representing the
same interest of his company for increasing the profit but he said that he is also seriously
concerned about the low purchasing power of this fuel of the common person and that he will
remain firm on this argument. This initiated a new dimension of brainstorming for social
responsibility and ethical consideration in that business meeting. Now on one side there was
short term strategy to earn high profit and on the other side, there was a long term strategy of
business growth with ethical consideration.
Requirement
Considering the above mentioned scenario, answer the following questions based on the knowledge that you have acquired from this course so far.

1: In your point of view, what may be the possible reason of prisoner’s dilemma in this situation? How will the ethical consideration help this business sector as a long term growth strategy? (10 Marks)
2: How can Mr. Ali create the spirit of moral reasoning in this interest group? Discuss with logical points. (10 Marks)

Among many, six are the popular parties that are very hopeful for their success in upcoming elections for their manifesto.

However, the general public seems divided in terms of vote casting on its own several factors. People have different intention and preferences to cast vote for a particular party. Some of the major factors that can become cause of vote casting are; party affiliation, ethnicity and age. Majority of the people also want to cast vote in order to endorse the party’s ideology. Some are intended towards issues country is currently facing and want to cast vote to solve those issues. Besides the above mentioned factors, there are certain other aspects that can either enhance or modify the intention of public to cast vote. These aspects are; promotional campaigns of parties and fear of terrorism (which can reduce the number of votes). Politics in Pakistan is assumed to be uncertain; however, above mentioned factors can develop varying intentions of people regarding vote casting. Anyhow, if the upcoming election held on due date successfully and whatever the results of these election come but one thing is positive outcome and that is the continuity of the democracy is prevailing in the country.

Learning objective:  To enhance the need of analytical and critical observation among students as they are future professionals.  To make them understand the significance of culture in communication. Background: A culture is a way of life of a group of people--their behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols. Similarly Enculturation is the process of passing on culture from one generation to the next, whereas Acculturation is the process one tends to learn the rules and norms of a culture different from one’s native culture. Task: Your task is to critically analyze these situations given below and sort out which situation falls in the category of Acculturation and Enculturation? And discuss why? Marks: Each carry 5 marks. (A) Bhutto family is considered as one of the most dominant and influential political family of Pakistan. Zulfiqar ali Bhutto was the pioneer of Pakistan People’s Party which led by Benazir Bhutto after his death. Bhutto family is the real depiction of Sindhi culture. In spite of the fact that Benazir lived in foreign country, she never failed to exemplify her native culture. Her Sindhi cultural dressing and language is an observable proof of this. Similarly, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is the great follower of his mother. Like her mother he tried his best to portray their Sindhi culture appealingly. (B) Basant celebrations have reached the point that invitation cards are printed out. It is celebrated on different days in the country so that the spirit of Basant is kept alive nationwide and people can participate in it on a national scale. People do not sleep on this night. But nobody is concerned with the fact that it was an Indian festival not ours. This event is incorporated in our culture as it is our own culture. Celebrating this particular festivity is deteriorating the culture of Pakistan to the lowest ebb. It is a festival which we do not dare to celebrate openly. Young chaps are in search of such places that are not easily accessible to their parents and relatives. Valentine’s Day is totally contrasting to our Islamic values. CS408 Human computer Interaction Assignment No. 2 Solution On April 2013

CS408 Human computer Interaction Assignment No. 2 Solution On April 2013

Statement:

Consider a fully automatic Car System, which is used by the user in order to perform different tasks related to car usage. Let’s take some part of this system for our assignment in which driver uses only three modules i.e. “open the appropriate door”, “start the car” “switch off car” and finally “close the door”.

For a moment, let’s suppose there is a naïve user of this fully automated car system, who wants to go through this whole process. He has a remote control in his hand. Remote control consists of control panel. Every button in control panel has some specific functionality, where numbers of buttons are displayed labeled; “1”, “2”, “3” , “4” along with “Door Open” & “Door close”, “Switch on” & Switch off” etc. In another panel guidelines are given about how to handle the Car.

Before going through all discussed stages of this system, he focuses on the remote control buttons and press “1” then presses another button, “Door open”, he finds that the driving seat door has opened up. He sits there and press “Door Close” button. Then, he again thinks for a moment and press “Switch on”button to start the car. He finds that car in now in active state (started). He drives the car and after some time reaches at desired location. Finally he presses “Switch off” button to deactivate (switch off) the car. He again opens up respective door by following the same process as discussed above and comes out of the car.

Question:

Map the human processor model and all its parts (Components) that come into play, on above scenario.

Note: Before attempting the assignment, go through the Human processor model and all its parts.

SOLUTION IDEA:

Human processor model:

Human processor model or MHP (Model Human Processor) is a cognitive modeling method used to calculate how long it takes to perform a certain task. Other cognitive modeling methods include parallel design, GOMS, and KLM (human-computer interaction).

The human processor model uses the cognitive, perceptual, and motor processors along with the visual image, working memory, and long term memory storages. A diagram is shown below. Each processor has a cycle time and each memory has a decay time. These values are also included below. By following the connections diagrammed below, along with the associated cycle or decay times, the time it takes a user to perform a certain task can be calculated

How To Calculate

The calculations depend on the ability to break down every step of a task into the basic process level. The more detailed the analysis the more accurate the model will be to predict human performance. The method for determining processes can be broken down into the following steps.

Write out main steps based on: a working prototype, simulation, step by step walk-through of all steps
Clearly identify the specific task and method to accomplish that task
For each final step identify sub-levels down to a basic process (in the diagram or chart below)
Convert into pseudo code (writing out methods for each step)
List all assumptions (will be helpful as multiple iterations are completed)
Determine time of each operation (based on the table below)
Determine if operation times should be adjusted (slower for elderly, disability, unfamiliarity, etc.)
Sum up execution times
Iterate as needed and check with prototyping if possible

MGT520 International Business Assignment No 1 Solution On April 2013

MGT520 International Business Assignment No 1 Solution On April 2013

Background:
As this is an era of globalization and international business requires
removing barriers, restrictions and ensuring safety in business activities
while trading goods, services, technology, and sharing investments among
different countries. World Trade Organization (WTO) which is an updated
form of General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) is formed in
1990’s after successive rounds of negotiations and legislations. WTO is
considered as the principal international institution, responsible for laying
down rules for the smooth conduct of trade in goods and services among
nations.
Real time scenario:
Critics say that there are some grey areas in WTO which provide more space
and opportunities for developed countries as compared to developing
countries; as a result they are getting more benefits as compared to
developing countries in all forms of trade. In world’s economy agriculture is
placed as a pillar. It contributes a larger amount of exports and provides
employment to the skilled and unskilled labor in the developing countries.
Agriculture related issues have been addressed in the following sub
agreements by WTO.
1. Agreement on Agriculture (AOA): It covers the issues of domestic
support, market access and export competition.
2. Agreement on Application of Sanitary and Phyto-sanitary Standards
(SPS): It deals with Health and disease related issues
3 | P a g e
3. Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT): It deals with
standards, certification procedures which include packaging, marking and
labeling requirements.
4. Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights
(TRIPs): IT deals with Patents and copyrights, plant breeders’ rights.
The overall result of agricultural liberalization and implementation of the
Agreement on Agriculture (AOA) along with other sub agreements
mentioned above is not positive. As
• There has been a tendency in the developed countries to erect nontariff
trade barriers against the products of developing countries.
• Developing countries exports suffer due to low profit margins and
price fluctuations in international markets.
• Greater proportion of the agricultural land and farms leads to
increased productivity which increases the local competition, unemployment
and poverty.
• Prices of food items are kept artificially low to cater to the needs of
low paid urban labor and middle class people.
• They face tough resistance to reach the markets of developed
countries on the basis of food, human safety, animal, and plant health and
safety standards.
• Developing countries fear that their centuries old farm practices will
become dependent on multinationals. This issue rises due to intellectual
property rights for seeds and plant varieties. Multinational seed companies
4 | P a g e
have now started claiming patent rights over the seed produced through their
research by introducing some new gene sequence.
Pakistan is an agrarian country and facing the same sort of issues like many
other developing countries. Statistics show that in spite of having a potential
comparative advantage over developed countries in the production of many
agricultural and food products such as cotton, rice, fruits, flowers, meat and
other dairy products, Pakistan has not been able to get the maximum benefits
from the recent developments and legislations occurred at WTO.
Requirement:
How Pakistan can get the optimum benefits (exports with improved profit margins, readily acceptance of products at international level by value addition and balanced imports from developed countries) by proving itself a dedicated member of WTO and mending its infrastructure (local resource, standards, country laws and economic policies).
Note:
A WTO rules are hardly negotiable here; provide your answer in context to
local infrastructure which gives an idea to capitalize the competitive edge we
have. For the complete information about Pakistan’s agriculture statistics

Question: 1                                                                                                                               Marks: 30

Analyze the following critical but interesting things using the following system of linear equations:
Using the following system of linear equations:

1) State the reason why the consistency and inconsistency of the given system is depending on its coefficient matrix. The reason should be very clear.
2) Determine the value of ‘ ’ that makes the given system inconsistent. Also, what will be the value of the determinant corresponding to that value of ?
3) Determine the values of   those makes the above system consistent. Also, calculate the determinant corresponding to those values of ?
4) Determine the values of the unknowns in the given system corresponding to  and .
5) Determine the free variable from the above system of equations.
6) Also discuss the uniqueness and non-uniqueness of the solution of the given system. I mean to say that is it possible for a system to have a unique solution? If it has then what will be the conditions on the system if not then what will be the conditions.

 Note:
 The value of the determinant plays a vital role in determining the consistency and inconsistency, so to solve (1) think about the nature of the determinant.
 You can calculate the value of   using Gauss Jordan technique and also by computing directly the determinant of the coefficient matrix. Then putting the value of  in the above system, the determinant can be calculated in (2).
 (3) Can be solved using Gauss Jordan technique, I mean reduced echelon form will tell you about the required values.

Note:
I am not demanding the correct solution of the given question. I have a desire that you should learn something that is why I am giving such kind of the problem. Please attempt it and do not believe on cheating. I promise to all of you, the person whose attempt will be real and genuine would be awarded good marks and the person whose attempt will not be genuine, would be awarded zero marks. You can discuss the problems with me related to the assignment through email. I will provide to all of you the maximum assistance to remove the difficulties but do not demand the whole solution from my side. Some hints have been provided above. Please read them carefully and attempt the assignment honestly. Take care all of you and good luck. Allah Hafiz. Thanks for reading the footnotes.

“ABC” is a worldwide company whose branches are situated all over the world. “ABC” needs an online virtual drive for storage of its important data over the web so that data can be accessible at any branch. They face a lot of problems due to distributed data so they demand an online virtual drive that is web based application which can manage their data problems. Online Virtual Drive will be a Web based application that will help users to store their important data on an online virtual disk drive that will act as similar to our hard disk. All the directories and files would be viewed as similar as we are viewing them on our personal computer’s hard drive. There will be two types of users other than the administrator. Anonymous User and Registered User.
Online Virtual Drive application will have a user-friendly interface. It will fulfill all the user and business requirements of the ABC Company. It will also provide required reports efficiently to the management and will help them in decision making. Anonymous user can access to Help Section, Tell a Friend Section, FAQ Section, About Us Section, Feedback Section and Registration or Sign Up page.
An anonymous user will fill the whole Registration form and will submit it to the administrator. Administrator of the system will have the right to approve or disapprove the user. When Administrator will approve the space requested by Anonymous user and verify all the information provided by Anonymous user in his/her registration form then a confirmation email will be sent to that Anonymous user which will become Registered User. Registered User on approval by administrator first has to login, to use the various functionalities of the system. User can upload files, delete, move and copy/paste files in directories/folders on system. User can make as many directories on system till his/her quota of space is not exceeded.
